I teased out a shot or two yesterday of the new redesign work and I wanted to give you the “full monty,” so to speak.
I’ve already completed all of the main core page designs and began implementing them Tuesday night. I’ve made some great progress since then and am targeting with a bit (i.e. a lot) of luck I’ll be able to resubmit the app to the Store this month.
Or at least that’s what I’m strongly gunning for. But that’s not why you’re here, right? Without further ado, here are some select screenshots of the new flat-design inspired look for Pressgram:
As you can see it’s keeping only a few elements from the first design iteration. I am keeping the orange color but other than that we’re moving in a clearly different direction.
The biggest change besides the flat design is the left-side menu system (tray) that’ll be used to help users navigate the app. This is very much like other apps that have found good use of this technique such as Google Mail (Gmail) app as you can see to the right.
I’m particular to this style of usability because it “feels” as if the menu system is always there and available to me, even if I don’t use it often.
Overall I believe that this new direction will not only help get the app approved (oh plz oh plz oh plz oh plz oh plz…) but also be a tighter fit with the imminent iOS 7 release. It’ll also reduce the amount of work I have to do for the iOS 7 design / feature upgrades that I’ll have to do post iOS 7 release.
So, even though the second rejection was tough I believe that it’s for the best which has resulted me going back to the drawing board and create an even better looking product for v1.0 (most of the Launch Team agrees) – this will help us market the application and increase adoption, which is always a good thing.
It’s been a really tough week but here we are, at the end of it, and I can breath a little. Praise the Lord. Still much more work to do but we’ll get there.
We have certainly created an interesting story, haven’t we? It really has become a sort of epic narrative that I honestly believe has just begun.
You should join us. It’s better together.
